Windup Toy Goblin

Wondrous item, uncommon

This foot-tall metal goblin is intricately detailed but looks a little haphazard in construction. The original design came from a gnome toymaker fascinated by goblin agility, but goblin tinkerers have since adapted it for their own use.

The goblin requires an action to wind up and travels in a straight line for 30 feet while making loud noises and performing cartwheels when released. It is large enough to trigger any traps or hazards activated by a creature’s presence. The goblin has AC 19, 5 (2d4) HP, and is immune to poison and psychic damage.

The goblin’s windup mechanism can be jammed or unjammed with a successful DC 15 Dexterity (Sleight of Hand) check. If the mechanism is jammed, the goblin can’t be wound up. A creature that attempts to wind up the goblin without unjamming it must make a DC 10 Strength (Athletics) check. On a success, the creature breaks the toy, dropping it to 0 hit points. On a failure, the creature fails to wind up the toy and nothing happens.

When the goblin drops to 0 HP, the clockwork mechanisms inside fail catastrophically. The goblin explodes and creatures within 10 feet must make a DC 13 Dexterity saving throw. A target takes 2d4 piercing damage on a failed save, or half as much damage on a successful one.

This foot-tall metal goblin is intricately detailed with numerous curved panels that fit together perfectly. The original design came from a gnome toymaker fascinated by goblin agility, but goblin tinkerers have since adapted it for their own use. The goblin travels 15 feet for each Interact action spent winding it up, up to a maximum of 10 actions. It has AC 19, Hardness 3, HP 12 (BT 6), and object immunities.

When released, the goblin travels in a straight line while making loud noises. It walks 5 feet, jumps 5 feet into the air through the next 5-foot space, and lands in the next 5-foot space, then repeats the cycle. It is large enough that it triggers any traps or hazards activated by a creature’s presence, though it does not count as entering the space of any trap placed on the ground for the spaces that it jumps through.

The goblin’s mouth has a panel that can be opened to place a poison with the inhaled trait inside. The goblin releases the poison in its space if it is wound up past its maximum of 10 times. Otherwise the poison can be removed by simply opening the panel without needing to Disable the Device.
