Welcome to the second instalment of I don’t have anything to put out at the moment so here’s some bullshit.
I’m in a weird situation where I have a lot of content in the works but none of it is finished. I can’t post my finished orc painting tutorial until I get my hands on some Vallejo Sick Green for the skin (I cannot deal with Warpstone Glow/P3 Iosan Green’s awful coverage anymore after struggling through three test models with it). I’ve got two other tutorials and another full paint range top 10 review partially finished. ANYWAY

Ashardalon just be lurking in the background over there.
Here’s my painting queue at the moment. There’s some D&D cultists and orcs from the Wrath of Ashardalon board game (holy mold lines on these fuckers), a space marine that is the subject for my space marine speed painting recipe tutorial who needs to be primed, a couple primed Mantic Games orcs I need to paint, and a few Skaven I found in a box somewhere that I undercoated and made a bit of a start on several years ago and then forgot about, that I figure I may as well finish. I’ve also got some space marines and a few other minis I need to strip too. Yay, stripping…
Anyway, there’s the waffling so I can get my word count up to something that qualifies as a post over with. Here’s the actual content.
So, I bought some Vallejo Game Colour Inks (the old formula ones) last week. I like inks and enjoy using them for glazing and such, but I’d never bought the Vallejo ones. But I saw them in my LGS while I was trying to find a cheap spray primer (a futile endeavour) and figured what the hell, better get them before they’re gone.
I bought basically the whole lot (minus the yellow and black green inks), and I’ve got fairly high expectations of them. Vallejo Game Colour is one of my top 3 favourite paint ranges, at least the pre-reformulation version is. I find the newer one harder to work with and it has all the normal matte paint issues I don’t like (see My Top 10 Citadel Paints). But since the old range is still widely available both from game stores and places like Amazon and is still used probably more then the new range is by Youtubers and such, I don’t have any issues recommending it. It does have flaws but it’s still better then most.
Anyway, the inks. They’re… Inks. They’re solid. They do the ink thing. Their one unique feature is that they dry less glossy then most inks. It’s a good feature that makes them better for mini painting then normal cheap artist acrylic inks, as the glare from a gloss paint can mess up your ability to see where to place your highlights. Inks are just super useful, for glazing, panel lining, and washing so I do think every experienced painter should have a few hanging around, and these are as good as any (for mini paint brands) and better then some. I don’t know if the new VGC ones are any better, they’re probably worse if the rest of the range is anything to go by. But yeah, I like them.
Ok, I need some real content in here. Hey look, here’s this sculpt of Bruenor Battlehammer (a popular D&D dwarf character) from the Legend of Drizzt D&D board game that I speed painted a couple years ago lying around next to my computer while I’m sitting here writing this. So here, let me see if I can remember the paint recipes for it.
The colour scheme works fairly good for most dwarf models, as they all tend to have similar clothing and features.

Just me being overly critical, or is the primer texture is strong on this one.
