Hobby Blog #4: D&D Stuff, Gargoyle/Stone and White Fur Paint Recipes

by | Apr 7, 2025 | Blog | 0 comments

I woke up to a notification on my phone that said BLOG with a picture attached of the Duolingo owl pointing a gun. Guess I’d better do that.

I just started (DMing) a new D&D campaign, after my last one ended just after Christmas. So most of my free time is spent on that, which means less blog. I’ll still make sure to post something once a week, but yeah long form content is getting pushed back. Expect a lot more of these Hobby Blogs. Sorry to this blog’s main audience of Warhammer players, but most of the stuff I’m gonna be painting will be D&D for the foreseeable future. I will try to fit in some Warhammer stuff from time to time, though. Since this blog is exclusively painting related, don’t expect any content of the D&D campaign on here.

Anyway, I’ve barely painted this week so I have no new minis to showcase, so it’s time for the old fallback of pulling out a random mini from my gigantic collection and trying to remember the paint recipes for it. Since this is such a short blog, I’ll give you two. Aaaaaand we have……

A gargoyle, once again from the Castle Ravenloft D&D Board Game. I actually really like this sculpt, and it’s easy to make it look good with simple drybrushing. For the second mini, we have a wolf, also from the same game. These are pretty much my standard speed painting recipes for stone and white fur.

All hail my photography skills (not).

Stone – Overbrush Dawnstone, wash Agrax Earthshade or Nuln Oil, heavy drybrush Dawnstone, lighter drybrush Administratum Grey. Pick out the eyes with Evil Sunz Scarlet.

Insert Geralt reference here.

White Fur – Basecoat Ulthuan Grey, wash 1:1 Reikland Fleshshade/Lahmian Medium, heavy drybrush Ulthuan Grey, light drybrush White.
Wolf Face – Basecoat White, wash 1:1 Reikland Fleshshade/Lahmian Medium, heavy drybrush White.

I picked out the nose of the wolf with black, the eyes with some yellow, and the teeth with white. I then washed the teeth with Nuln Oil for definition and dotted in pupils on the eyes with Black.

So yeah. Blog short. Much D&D to do. Hope you like Reaper minis cause there’s gonna be a lot of those incoming. Go join the Discord https://discord.gg/646b7T3d99. BYE
