Icons of the Realms: Fangs and Talons coming Nov. 2020 (plus 2021-2022 release schedule news)

Updated: Jul 10

We have three exclusive WizKids news announcements for you today! Listen to Theo cover it in our YouTube video or read on to see the release schedule of everything we know is coming!

Note: We incorrectly identified the name of the set as Fangs & Claws in the video when in fact it is Fangs & Talons

First, the big announcements! These were communicated to us by Patrick O'Hagan, Executive Producer of RPGs at WizKids.

Icons of the Realms Set 15: Fangs and Talons

Icons of the Realms is the official prepainted mini product line for fifth edition Dungeons & Dragons, and unless it gets renamed before release, this is going to be the first set not named for a source book. Fangs and Talons is going to be a monster-heavy set focusing on creatures with fangs and talons! While we don't have renders to show you, the following creatures should be included:

  • Aboleth

  • Green Slaad

  • Tridrone

  • Ki-rin

  • Young Red Dragon

  • Young Green Dragon

  • Kobold

  • Almiraj

  • Boggle

  • Lizardfolk

  • Mule

  • Vine Blight

  • Gloom Weaver

  • Berbalang

  • Mimic

  • Banshee

  • Fire, Earth, Water, and Air Elementals

  • Marid

  • Flail Snail

  • T-Rex

  • Dire Troll

  • Fire Giant Skeleton

This set includes huge-sized minis. The premium figure accompanying the set is a purple worm.

WarLock Tiles

There are 7 WarLock Tiles sets coming in July 2020, but WizKids isn't taking a break. We can now confirm the following sets (see the release schedule list for exact dates)

  • Town Square terrain

  • Town Square set dressing

  • Curves Set

  • Corners Set

  • One-inch squares for all previous sets (Dungeon Tiles, Town & Village, Town Square, Corners, and Curves)

  • Tunnels and Caves

  • Sewers

  • Grasslands

  • Swampy, pre-medieval hamlet

  • Wilderness

  • Ruins

WizKids will also begin selling individual pieces on their web store at https://shop.wizkids.com/ if you just need a few pieces and not a whole box set. These should start showing up in July or August 2020.

Starfinder Booster Set & Unpainted Minis

There are two fixed sets of prepainted Starfinder minis coming July 2020, one for villains and one for heroes, but now we finally have confirmation that a full booster set like Icons of the Realms and Pathfinder Battles will come out for Starfinder January 2021! This set will have a slightly smaller number of minis, roughly 40 compared to the 44 of Icons or Pathfinder Battles. And if that isn't enough to make you praise Triune, a line of unpainted Starfinder minis like Deep Cuts or Nolzur's is also coming!

  • WarLock Tiles: Soft clips—softer than the standard clips but less durable, is a separate product and doesn't replace the standard clips

  • WarLock Tiles: Swift clips—doesn't clip, relies on friction alone like the edge caps in the base sets, allows for stability but doesn't keep the set together if picked up

Sometime 2022

  • D&D metallic dragons

  • WarLock Tiles: Wilderness

  • WarLock Tiles: Ruins

  • WarLock Tiles: Ruin Walls

Some last notes

  • Paint Night Kits are one unpainted miniature plus a set of Vallejo paints (the manticore one we saw had around 12 paint colors) and brushes and everything else you need to paint the figure, plus a QR code on the box that links you to an online painting tutorial

  • There should also be "warband" style releases for creatures with swappable parts, but these will be a separate product line from the warbands, which are fixed sculpts. Gnolls were mentioned to be in scope for this.

  • Starfinder unpainted minis line is coming but not sure when or what it'll contain

  • D&D Premium Figures have been very popular and so should have 10 per wave going forward, waves will be pretty frequent

  • Pathfinder Battles Premium Figures will stay at 5-6 per wave

  • D&D Icons of the Realms booster set releases are increasing in frequency to 4 per year

  • Pathfinder Battles booster sets will remain at 2 a year

  • Starfinder Battles booster sets will be 1 a year but could change based on popularity

  • There will be a locathah mini at some point
