Wizkids has several sets of pre-painted minis set for release between now and spring 2020.
You'd be forgiven for losing track of the various sets of pre-painted minis that Wizkids produces these days. I thought today would be a good time to take a broad look at what's to come with the help of our friends at minisgallery.com. Each link here will take you to their respective preview pages. Their forums are a great place to discuss upcoming releases as well.
January 2020 - First up we have Monster Pack 2: Cave Defenders. This set will include a new ogre sculpt (seen above), plus painted versions of previously released Nolzur's monsters, including three kobolds and two bugbears. Another great set of basic monsters who should hit the table frequently. This set will retail for about $25. Here's our review of the first Monster Pack:
February 2020 - The next wave of spell effect minis again includes two sets. First we have Mighty Conjurations, which gives us 16 unique spell effects including Maximilian's Earthen Grasp (not a cat claw), various healing spirits, and Leomund's Tiny Hut, the arcane safety tent for many an adventuring party. This set should retail for around $50. Releasing alongside Mighty Conjurations is Halaster's Tumultuous Templates. Spell templates are widely used to help determine which squares are affected by various area-of-effect spells such as fireball. There are many third-party sets of templates you can get your hands on of various designs. Most of these are simple pieces of plastic or acrylic sheets. This new set from Wizkids, however, is themed for the various spells. For example, the fireball template is cast in orange plastic and looks like a ring of fire. This set includes 10 templates: Burning Hands, Faerie Fire, Fear, Fireball, Hypnotic Pattern, Moonbeam, Spirit Guardian (Fey, Angelic, and Fiend), and web. The set has an MSRP of $60. March 2020 - The Arkhan the Cruel and the Dark Order set of six minis designed to support Descent Into Avernus drops in March. You can read our report on it here. Also set for release in March is the next full booster set supporting Ebberon: Rising from the Last War. We don't have much information yet, but here's what we do know. The set will again feature 44 minis and will top out with huge-sized figures. It'll include minis for the new artificer class and the warforged and shifter races. It also features infamous monsters from the Eberron setting such as the Lord of Blades, seen below. The premium figure for the set will be a skycoach!
April 2020 - The next wave of Premium hero figures is the most recently announced set on this list. It includes six nicely painted minis that your players can use in your campaigns. You can see our article about it here. Here's our review of the first wave:
June 2020 - Finally, the most interesting release currently planned for the summer is a set of dungeon terrain. They call them Warlock Tiles. Many sets have been announced, and we'll take a closer look tomorrow here at the Gallant Goblin.
News has been quiet on the Pathfinder and Starfinder fronts lately. We know that Wizkids has a few Starfinder mini sets planned for 2020, but the exact details are fuzzy at the moment. Whether they will release random booster sets or individual packs or figures like the Premium Figures or Monster Packs remains to be seen. We're a bit overdue on the announcement of the next Pathfinders Battle line as well. January sees the start of the second adventure path for second edition, Extinction Curse. The third adventure path, Agents of Edgewatch begins in the summer. Perhaps our next Pathfinder Battles mini set will support one of those adventures.
Stay tuned to the Gallant Goblin for the latest news in TTRPG minis.
